Project 1: Johns Practice networking infrastructure move
The Johns Practice are a forward thinking Architect's practice in Newmarket who provide new and exciting ideas for various sized clients around East Anglia. Their purpose built offices recently have been upgraded in readiness for a growth expansion. Cambridge Networks were asked to relocate the servers and networking infrastructure into a single data cabinet.
Due to timescales and workload Cambridge Networks provided the resource at a weekend so to minimise disruption.
The installation was started on a Saturday morning at 8:00 and was finished on a Sunday evening at 4:00pm. The new environment looks absolutely stunning and allows for all networking equipment to be housed in one secure location.
All equipment within the cabinet has been labelled to provide explanation and ease of use. A central 4 port KVM Switchbox has also been installed that controls all of the servers for the press of a single button. The main servers and networking hardware is additionally connected to a rack mounted UPS supporting the critical hardware against power outage and spikes.
In this installation the cabling was already in situ, so the layout of the cabinet had to be modified slightly so that all cabling connections were at the base of the cabinet. Usually this is alway placed at the top of the cabinet leaving the bottom for all hardware, however in this case the servers and switches were raised up a couple of 'U' from the base of the cabinet.
The telephone system was also relocated into a 2nd cabinet next to the data cabinet and all cabling between data and comms equipment was labelled and colour coded
Project 2: Moore Stephens IT Support assistance
Long term client Moore Stephens (an Accountancy practice based across 5 sites the East Midlands) contacted Cambridge Networks for several small issues that required rapid response. Cambridge Networks used remote support tools to diagnose the issues and resolve within a matter of hours. These issues ranged from a faulty tape drive, failing backup script, failed raid environment as well as a Outlook Calendar issue. All of these issues bar the faulty tape drive were resolved via a remote connection.
The tape drive was resolved by one of Cambridge Networks trusted Technicians 'Tim Hodkin'. Due to the severity of the issue Tim agreed to be onsite 1st thing the very next morning to resolve the issue. Tim arrived at the Peterborough branch for 8:30 am and by 9:00 am had diagnosed the fault as a broken tape header on the DLT tape drive. A replacement tape drive was then installed and the backup was tested. Tim additionally stayed onsite to confirm there were no additional issues prior to leaving site.
Subsequently Cambridge Networks are now in discussions with Moore Stephens to offer a partnership between Cambridge Networks and Moore Stephens IT departments to assist with the support and monitoring of the 5 sites servers and critical workstations.
